How to Put on a Benefit Fundraiser

A benefit fundraiser is a great way to raise money in one day for a specific charity or person. The preparation can take weeks and you will want a good crew of volunteers to help put it together. Although it can even take a few months to plan and prepare, the fundraising golf tournaments end result is usually pretty amazing. It is a great opportunity to raise a lot of money, plus the event itself can be a lot of fun. If you are thinking of doing a fundraising benefit here are a few steps to follow.

-Step 1: Decide on the type of event you want to do. It can be a dinner, an auction, a golf tournament or a walk/race. You can even combine a couple of these events, for example, do a dinner and an auction together.

-Step 2: Choose a date. Check the community calendar and with people that are involved and make sure it is a date that doesn’t have too many conflicts. Make plans with whoever is in charge of the location and get the date set up with them as early as possible.

-Step 3: Get donations. Go out and find local companies that are willing to donate money or items to give away for prizes. The best way to ask for donations is face to face. Explain to them what the event is for and how the money will be used. You can give them a printed letter with more detailed explanations of the event.

-Step 4: Advertise the event. Try to get as much free advertising as you can. Send a press release to your local newspapers and talk to someone at the local radio station and ask if they will run an ad for the event. Hang fliers at schools, churches and other community buildings. Also use social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter to promote the event. Get the word out to as many people as possible.

-Step 5: Have fun on the event day. Organize your volunteers and delegate responsibilities to them so you don’t have to do everything on your own. Take time to really enjoy the event and mingle with those that have come to support.

-Step 6: Send a thank you to everyone involved, mainly your volunteers and your donors.

If you want to raise money for a charity or for someone in need, a benefit fundraiser is a great way to do it. Just follow the steps above and you will be able to put on a fun event and raise money. Be organized and utilize your volunteers as much as possible. The better the teamwork, the better the success you’ll have.
